Cheap LCD TV Goes Online!

By · Comments Comments Off

Welcome to our website devoted to getting the best LCD TV for your money. Now as you probably already know, the best deal for you is not necessarily the lowest priced unit. There are lots of considerations when looking to buy that new television set. As prices continue to plummet, feature sets proliferate resulting in more television for the money. The consumer is the winner as time marches on.

What are the main considerations when looking for a new television? The first thing people think about is the size of the television. If you are going to place your new TV in an audio video cabinet, then the height and width are important considerations. My cabinet was only large enough for a 37″ TV so if you’re going to put a television in your cabinet, make sure that you know its exact dimensions including the stand. Also keep in mind that larger TV sets should also have full HD capability, that is to say their resolution should be 1080p for the full HD viewing experience.

Once you have an idea what size TV you want, then you look at the options available. The first thing is the backlighting technology. Right now LED backlit displays are dominating the scene. LED backlighting has the benefits of even lighting, great depth of blacks, and very high brightness for outstanding contrast. Older LCD television sets had fluorescent backlighting. The problem with fluorescent bulbs is that they are not nearly as bright or white as LED lights. The other issue is that fluorescent bulbs dim as they age. They also don’t have the same life as LED lights do.

Refresh rate is another aspect of a new TV’s performance that you should take into consideration. The newest televisions now have refresh rates of 240 refreshes per second (hz). So, at 240hz, the TV can display fast moving action scenes with no motion blur at all. People who enjoy fast-paced sports will love the higher refresh rates that the latest technology offers. The older sets used to refresh at 60hz and the difference is really noticeable.

3D or not 3D, that is the question. How can you buy a new TV without 3D capability? Well, the battle rages on with competing technologies. The two main groups are the passive glasses crowd and the active glasses crowd. The passive technology allows you to use 3D glasses similar to the old 3D glasses that you used to put on in the 3D theater. The active glasses require batteries and some people have reported that they are more cumbersome and not very comfortable. To answer this question, I recommend that you take a look at the competing technologies at your local big box store. Only when sitting in front of the set can you truly appreciate the differences. Also, some TVs are better at converting 2D material to the 3D experience. As more and more programs become available in 3D, the capability will become more commonplace.

There are other really cool and interesting features such as apps to view premium content or even to surf the web. Some televisions offer applications (apps) that allow connection to services like NetFlix and Hulu, two services which offer TV shows and movies that stream right to the TV. This can be really useful because it frees you from having to have a 1,000 disc DVD library to keep you entertained. It also frees you from having to keep stored content in a DVR (digital video recorder). Imagine seeing an ad for a show and just watching it that moment, right when you are interested most in seeing it.

Picture quality! Who cares if you have a giant TV that’s blurry and washed out? Before purchasing a TV, you should really go out and see it in person. Most stores have all the TVs in a row for easy comparison. Keep in mind that since a lot of these stores are staffed by people who don’t really care about the best picture quality or who just don’t have any time to waste on anything besides unpacking and connecting the set, that you are going to see the TV with its default settings. Keep in mind also that there might be some kids running around playing with the settings. If a top rated LCD TV looks really bad to you, time to push the reset button on the menu to see. Most sets will benefit from a calibration session in your home to work optimally. I’ve personally never gone through a formal calibration, but all of my TVs are running custom settings based on my personal preferences.

What about the sound? My old giant super heavy glass tube television came with large built-in speakers that sounded wonderful. When I switched to the new technology I was blown away by how great the picture was and blown away by how bad the sound was too! Flat panel means flat panel. Most LCD TV manufacturers don’t put the greatest speakers in their TVs. It’s a fact and many people are complaining about it all over the net. The real solution to this is to have your set connected to a nice surround sound stereo. Barring that, there are many companies that sell speakers for LCD television sets and some of them even come with subwoofers and remote controls.

How about connectivity? What if you own 3 DVRs and want to use them all with HDMI connectors? How many input and output connectors does your new TV have? Make sure that the set you are interested in has all the connections you might want for now and down the road. New DVRs have HDMI connections, old VCRs (do you even know what that is?) have old analog connections, and many laptops still have VGA or DVI connectors. If you have any of these devices and want to use them, make sure the set has the appropriate connectors.

Timing is everything! When you are looking for a discount on your new HD LED TV set, timing is important. Look for when a new model comes out replacing the unit you wanted. At that time, for a limited time, discounts can be had by stores looking to clear out the old version of your TV. That’s when you can get a deal. Also, holiday specials can offer extraordinary discounts. If shopping on Black Friday is your idea of fun, you can pick up some great bargains if you are diligent and determined. Last, but not least, at the lowest points of the year sales-wise, some stores have bargains that cannot be had at other times of the year.

The new grade of plasma televisions set the new standard for high definition viewing. This television is meant to be placed in a home theater room. One of the outstanding features of plasma televisions as opposed to their LCD counterparts is the low level definition of black and gray levels. The black parts of the picture are inky black and users of this television report levels of detail in the shadows and blacks that they’ve never seen before.

I won’t start an LCD vs. Plasma debate here, but if low level definition of dark areas as seen in dark movies and particularly sci-fi films is important to you, then you owe it to yourself to check out a plasma tv in your local big box store.

This television also has niceties like touch sensitive remote and it’s also 3D capable so you can watch programs that are 3D encoded for a truly immersive experience.

Samsung UN46EH6000 46-Inch 1080p 240 Hz LED HDTV

By · Comments Comments Off

This Samsung television is a real super performer. It offers a truly stunning picture with a 240Hz refresh which means that fast action scenes are rendered in great detail.

The television also includes the latest LED backlighting technology. LEDs offer higher contrast and brighter colors. The unit also offers a full HD 1080p picture for maximum clarity with Blu Ray discs and other high definition sources.

The unit also comes with the standard HDMI connectors to connect the latest video devices. Make sure you use a high quality HDMI cable for the best picture possible.

The main selling point of the TV is the picture quality. It does not have all the media streaming apps or support for 3D content and other advanced features. Most users will not care about this as they will have a high definition cable box and a DVD player and that’s a perfect setup for this television.

Who Makes the Best 32″ LED TV?

By · Comments Comments Off

The new rage in LCD television sets is LED technology. LED lit displays offer brighter, livelier colors so they now set the standard. If you are in the market for a new LCD flat panel television, then you want LED technology.

The 32″ TV size is a crowded space and there are a ton of manufacturers. The display quality is a matter of personal preference, but there are a few outstanding TVs in this range.

For the time being, meaning as of the time of this writing, we’re going to give the crown to the Samsung UN32EH4000. This is a great little television. While many of its peers are still using CCFL technology, the Samsung is using LEDs.

It should be noted that the TV does not have features like 3D viewing or apps for viewing content from streaming providers. Those features are only found on larger TV sets. Televisions in this range are used for smaller spaces and have less stringent requirements.

It should also be noted that the screen resolution is a720p. This is not true HD resolution, so you should keep that in mind. Since the size of the picture is not that large, the lower resolution should not be noticeable in most applications.

We selected this television because of its picture quality. The colors are bright and the picture is very clear. This television is a perfect TV for your kids room. It has HDMI connectors so you can connect the new gaming consoles like the XBOX to it for some really great gaming.

The unit also supports picture viewing from a usb port and also plays videos from any usb device. That is a very useful feature.

So, to wrap up, there are many decent televisions in the 32 inch range. Currently, our top pick is the Samsung UN32EH4000 because it also includes LED backlighting and it has an excellent picture. If you get this one for the kids, they’ll love you for it, believe me. If you buy it for yourself, be prepared for a nice viewing experience that’s sure to last for a few years to come (until that next jump in technology, that is).

VideoSecu makes a whole array of wall mounts for LCD televisions. If you are looking to install your new LCD TV on the wall, then you need a proper wall mount. Most wall mounts offer a way to tilt or swivel the television set. If you are going to use it in a kitchen, then the ability to swivel the TV from the cooking area to the serving area is a big plus.

When looking for the right TV mount, there are several factors to watch out for. First off is the supported size. The unit will tell you if it supports the size you are looking for. Also keep in mind the mounting hole arrangement. There are different mounting styles, VESA 100, 200 and 400 are most standard. Make sure the mount supports your TV mounting hole standard.

Some wall mounts also come with a stud finder which is handy and some have integrated levels in them so you hang your TV straight. Nothing is more of a drag than mounting the TV askew and having to do it all over again.
